Massa: I am expecting to have a very tough race

Oct.23 (GMM) The Brazilian Sixth on the grid and a full second off pole position, he was also some eight tenths slower than third-placed team-mate Fernando Alonso.

“I am not happy, especially because sixth place means I have to start on the less clean side of the grid, which is a major handicap on a surface as dirty as this one,” Brazilian Felipe began.

“I was very pleased at the end of Q2 because the car was more competitive than yesterday and I thought I could fight for a top place.

"Unfortunately, I had a bit of traffic on the only run I did in Q3 on my last set of new Soft tyres - a shame because the car was going well, but I was not able to get the most out of it.

“The situation in terms of grip has improved, even with the harder tyres, and I expect that trend to continue tomorrow.

"I am expecting to have a very tough race. If it was to rain it could be even more slippery than usual, given the condition of the track surface.”

Lotus finally signs new engine contract with Renault for 2011

Oct.23 (GMM) As the gloomy Korea paddock emptied on Saturday night, word widen that Lotus has finally secured its engine supply contract for 2011. It has been an open secret that the new Malaysian team is switching from Cosworth to Renault, but the naming dispute with Proton was believed to have held up the formalities.

But, whatever the current status of the dispute with Group Lotus, it seems the contracts were at last signed in the new Yeongam paddock late on Saturday.

Finnish driver Heikki Kovalainen would not confirm.

"If it happens it will be an interesting deal for our team," he told the Daily Mail.

After Renault, the next step will be the announcement of Kovalainen's new deal for 2011, with his current teammate Jarno Trulli also tipped to return next season.

"At the moment I don't want to talk about it anymore," Kovalainen insisted. "I think we have made good progress this year, so it is of course a very strong possibility for me to carry on here.

"That is all I can say at the moment," he added.

Heidfeld looking for 2011 opportunity at Renault, Force India

Oct .23 (GMM) The Renault and Force India have appeared as the most likely teams to keep Nick Heidfeld's Formula One career alive beyond 2010. Although returning from Mercedes and Pirelli test roles to complete the existing season with Sauber, Heidfeld has not been signed for next season by the Swiss team, who are instead pitting the Telmex-backed rookie Sergio Perez alongside Kamui Kobayashi.

But veteran Heidfeld, revealing in Korea this week that he does not carry any personal sponsorship, has emerged as a candidate to replace the disappointing Russian pay-driver Vitaly Petrov at Renault.

Team boss Eric Boullier, suggesting that a decision could be made by Abu Dhabi next month, told Auto Motor und Sport: "Both Heidfeld and Sutil have a chance."

Renault's thinking is that, with a good driver alongside Robert Kubica this year, the team might have beaten Mercedes to fourth place in the constructors' championship -- with prize-money arguably beyond even Petrov's impressive dowry.

Adrian Sutil, with a solid offer to stay at Force India, is also an interesting candidate, especially with his EUR5 million in MEDION sponsorship to offer.

The good news for Heidfeld is that Sutil is also in the running for the Williams seat, and his departure to either Renault or Williams would free up the place at Force India.

"That place is only free if Sutil goes," Heidfeld confirmed.

And if Sutil does go, the 33-year-old German must be a strong contender.

"It is hardly conceivable that Force India will go into 2011 with Vitantonio Liuzzi next to Paul di Resta -- one a newcomer and another who has been disappointing," said the German media report.

Schumacher gets warning for Barrichello block

Oct.23 (GMM) The Formula 1 Governing body FIA race stewards in Korea, one of which is 1980 World Champion Alan Jones, have handed Michael Schumacher an official reprimand for holding up Rubens Barrichello through five corners – Turns 10 to 14 - in Q2 qualifying on Saturday.
Williams’ Barrichello, former Ferrari team-mate of Schumacher, was left furious in Q2 as he was held up by the Mercedes when winding up for a flying lap.

Following hearing opinions from both drivers plus senior team representatives, the stewards decided that a reprimand would suffice for the 7-time World Champion.

‘The stewards note that, irrespective of the team (Mercedes)’s opinion that car 9 (Barrichello) was not on a “fast lap”, it is ultimately the driver’s responsibility to be conscious of closing cars via the use of mirrors and blue flags/lights,’ reads an additional note on the bottom of the stewards’ report.

Also, other Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has been cleared of an any penalty following an alleged baulking of Fernando Alonso – which caused the Spaniard to break sharply - in the morning’s third practice session.

Korean GP Weather updates: forecasters expecting race-day rain at Yeongam

Oct.22 (GMM) The Formula 1 paddock is hoping rain at the new Yeongam venue.

After a dry opening race weekend in South Korea so far, forecasts are expecting rain later on Saturday and overnight, with a very high chance of more heavy showers on race-day morning.

And the warning of rain for 1500 local on Sunday - the listed race start - is more than 50 per cent, leaving some drivers worried about the effect of a wet track atop the new and already low-grip surface.

"It's going to be tough whatever the weather does," warned McLaren's Jenson Button.

Hamilton: we can still have a very good race tomorrow

Oct.22 (GMM) Title competitor Lewis Hamilton insists he is not out of the running at the Korean GP, despite qualifying fourth and admitting he was baffled by the Red Bulls' pace. Hamilton, presently fourth in the title race and 28 points behind Mark Webber, will start behind all three of his championship rivals on Sunday's grid. However, he is confident that the car will be quicker in race trim and will have a significant advantage on the long straights at the start of the lap.

"We were very quick in practice, so I don't know where the Red Bulls found an extra half a second in Q3," he said. "Still, it's important to remember that we're still in the fight: we make good starts, and there are some long straights here, which should suit us.

"I feel that we're competitive - the car is the best it's ever been and our long runs are strong. We just need to do the best we can with what we have - we can't ask any more of the guys back at the factory, or the guys here, and I don't think I could have asked for any more from me.

"So, yes, we can still have a very good race tomorrow."

Team principal Martin Whitmarsh said the drop in track temperature between practice and qualifying played into Red Bull's hands but was also very confident for the race.

"The conditions in qualifying today were pretty challenging - low-grip tarmac combined with low-ish track temperatures - and as a result it was difficult to get the tyres up to optimal operating temperature fast enough," he said. "However, we're very positive about tomorrow's race. We've got a very good race car, with strong straight-line speed, and as a result both Jenson [Button] and Lewis will be able to drive attacking races."

Since the Japanese Grand Prix, McLaren has solved the problems it had with its updated rear wing and Hamilton said it had made a big difference.

"The team made a phenomenal effort to get all the new parts to the track for this race, and everybody has done a fantastic job at the track all weekend," he added.

Webber said it was an 'almost perfect' qualifying

Oct.22 (GMM) The Australian championship leader Mark Webber said it was an 'almost perfect' qualifying following Red Bull locked out the front row for the Korean GP. Regardless of marginally losing out on pole to team-mate and title rival Sebastian Vettel, Webber confessed that he was happy with his starting position going into Sunday's race.

"I wasn't that happy on the first timed laps to be honest it was more comfortable and more stable for me to do two times," said Webber. "It worked out okay obviously it was very close with Seb and I got second on the grid which is a lot better off than many other positions on the grid but of course it would have been nice to get pole but in the end.

"It is still a good position to start the race and we can still do very well from there and get a good result tomorrow. Quali went to plan today I would say. Pretty close to perfect but not quite."

Although Webber will start from the dirty side of the track of the line with title rival Fernando Alonso on the cleaner side just behind him, he is not overly worried about losing out to the Ferrari off the line.

"Fernando will be pretty solid off the line for sure but it is not going to make or break the world championship so we will just get through what we can and press on from there, so certainly a good position."

Oct.22 (GMM) F1 governing body the FIA has confirmed that Hispania Racing was handed a fine of 5,000 dollars (3,200 pounds) after Friday’s second free practice session at the Korea International Circuit.

The fine came following a bizarre incident during the session, which saw the car of Sakon Yamamoto being released from its garage with a tyre warmer still attached. Realising the error, two mechanics entered the pit lane in order to recover the loose object – but breaking safety rules by doing so.

2020 Apple iMove Study: Macintosh thinks differently as it hits middle age

A while back there was a rumor going around that Apple and its overlord Steve Jobs were going to be getting into the city car game. Although nothing official has been announced in the years since those rumors started - and Google looks ready to shut down anything Apple has coming with its driver-less cars - the iMove, an independent design study, is likely close to what people were thinking as soon as Apple mentioned "car".

Designed by 20-year old Liviu Tudoran, the iMove is simple, smooth, cute, and most of all, blends right into the Apple product lineup of pods and user-friendly design.

The exterior uses "photocromic material" to adjust the exterior hue of the vehicle (at least on the transparent parts) based on a variety of presets. Think of it like the Mustang's MyColor gauges, but on the outside of your ride.

Have a look at the pics below (and use our new edit function, if necessary) to check out some of the designer's ideas and explanations behind them. While the spelling may be a bit off, the idea seems to be fairly on.

The iMove, though currently just a sketch and rendering, will be right at home in the cities of the future. I'll take mine in Vintage Mac Beige please.
